New Swedish dictionary (live now!)

We’ve now begun using our new Swedish dictionary from The Swedish Academy (Svenska Akademien). Like the previous Swedish dictionary, this one contains all valid word forms and endings, some of which may be rarely used in daily speech or writing. However, in a day or two we’re releasing an updated version of Wordfeud that has an additional Swedish dictionary. This one is much stricter and only contains the base form of a word, no endings or conjugations allowed.

We hope this change will make everyone happy!

Updated Danish dictionary

We’ve just updated our Danish dictionary (based on The Concise Danish Dictionary). More than 50000 words have been added, many of which are missing forms of existing words.

We’re aware that there are other sources that may provide a better suited Danish dictionary (Dansk Sprognævn for instance), and we are evaluating options.

New Swedish dictionary part 2

(Another moon language post)

New Swedish dictionary coming soon (Svenska Akademien)

Problems for Dutch users after iOS5 upgrade

Update: v1.2.10 is now available in the App Store.

After updating to iOS 5 many of our Dutch users have started experiencing “game sync” and other strange error messages while playing Wordfeud. We believe we’ve found the problem, and an update was sent to the App Store for review a few days ago. It should be available early next week.

Updated Dutch dictionary

We’ve been busy improving the Dutch dictionary used by Wordfeud. We’ve just now gone live with an updated dictionary that we hope resolves some of the issues experienced by our Dutch players.

Some words about the new dictionary from our Dutch language expert:

Raadpleeg in twijfelgevallen www.taaltik.nl/Wordfeud.

Een aantal voorbeelden van woorden die gevormd kunnen worden:
geëerd wordt op het speelbord: geeerd
zee-egel wordt op het speelbord: zeeegel
taxi’s wordt op het speelbord: taxis

Dutch Wordfeud words list

The Dutch words list is based on the words list 2.10 from OpenTaal. This list has been expanded with en large amounts of words, accepted by the spellchecker of the same community.

From there, the list was expanded, filtered and cleaned, following the rules of the Dutch Scrabble Union.

Though maximum effort has been used to deliver quality, there is always the possibility of errors or omissions.

In case of doubt, please consult: www.taaltik.nl/Wordfeud

Some examples of words that can be used in the game:

geëerd can be put on the board as: geeerd
zee-egel can be put on the board as: zeeegel
taxi’s can be put on the board as: taxis

Server issues tonight

We were experiencing some server issues today that may have affected the ability to login to Wordfeud for some of our users. If you’re being asked to enter your password when opening Wordfeud, there are a few things you can do to fix the problem:

1) If you’ve never changed your password from the Wordfeud settings, the easiest fix is to simply reinstall Wordfeud. Your current games and friend list will remain intact as long as you login with the same email address or username after reinstalling. If you’ve purchased Wordfeud earlier, make sure to go into the Wordfeud settings and tap “Restore Previous Purchase” (if using an iPhone), or download the paid version from the Android Market (if using an Android phone).

2) If the above doesn’t help, go to the password reset page and follow the instructions to reset your password.

3) Finally, if all else fails, please send an email to support@wordfeud.com with “Wordfeud password help” in the subject line. Make sure to include your username in the email.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will do what we can to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Wordfeud v1.2.4 for Android and iOS is out

It’s been a long time since the last Android version of Wordfeud was released. The latest version includes the following changes (Android):

  • Added player search feature.
  • Added social networking links.
  • Added confirmation dialog for inviting friends (to avoid sending accidental invites).
  • Improved invite by email feature (download link now works on both Android and iPhone).
  • Fixed Swedish dictionary (added over 20000 missing words)
  • Fixed a problem on the Motorola Xoom where a tile was missing from the “Swap tiles” dialog.
  • Fixed a chat problem where messages containing certain characters would disappear.
  • Fixed an issue where finished games couldn’t be removed.
  • Fixed several login issues.
  • Fixed several “force close” issues.

The iOS version fixes a very annoying bug that causes Wordfeud to crash immediately after launching for some users.

Wordfeud for iOS is here

After about four months of development, Wordfeud for iOS is finally out. A big thanks to everyone who helped with final beta testing.

It spent almost exactly one week waiting to be reviewed by the Apple people (which seems to be the norm these days). Thankfully, it was approved on the first attempt.
